Isra University Discusses Journalism Students’ Research on Media During the Gaza War

Isra University discussed a number of graduation research projects by bachelor’s degree students in the Department of Journalism and Media and Communication Technology at the Faculty of Humanities. The research addressed media and national issues related to the Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip during the period 2023–2025, with a focus on the role of the media in coverage and documentation, conveying the Palestinian narrative, and countering misinformation.
The research projects were discussed in person at the university’s Al-Nasr campus in Gaza City, alongside the discussion of several projects via videoconferencing. The sessions were attended by faculty members, supervisors, and academics from inside and outside the Gaza Strip, as part of the university’s efforts to continue its academic mission despite the exceptional circumstances facing the Strip.
The research topics varied, covering media coverage of the war, journalistic verification and the ethics of using artificial intelligence, investigative journalism and the documentation of violations, the role of digital media in promoting national unity, the role of television drama in preserving Palestinian memory and narrative, and the impact of social media platforms on journalists’ performance during the war.
Dr. Asmaa Nasr, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, emphasized the Faculty’s commitment to linking graduation projects with pressing national and humanitarian issues. She highlighted the role of academic research in examining Palestinian realities and documenting the transformations taking place within society. She also commended the efforts of the students and supervisors, noting that the research demonstrated an awareness of the importance of the media in documenting events, countering misinformation, and analyzing the transformations taking place in the media landscape.
For her part, Ms. Maryam Ihab Al-Haj Ahmad, the course supervisor, explained that the students’ choice of research topics was consistent with the transformations that the war has imposed on media work. She noted that the projects provided an opportunity for students to apply their academic knowledge and skills to real-world issues facing the Palestinian media sector.
The discussion of these research projects comes as part of Isra University’s continued implementation of its academic programs and its commitment to enabling students to fulfill their graduation requirements and continue their academic journeys despite the challenges that current circumstances have imposed on the educational process in the Gaza Strip.
