The Department of Journalism, Media Technology, and Communication at Al-Israa University Discusses Its Students’ Graduation Projects

Gaza – Public Relations:

The Department of Journalism, Media Technology, and Communication in the Faculty of Humanities at Al-Israa University in Gaza City held its in-person graduation project discussions on Wednesday at the Social Solidarity Center of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate in Gaza and Deir al-Balah. Additionally, a number of students joined the sessions via Google Meet due to the circumstances of the ongoing war that prevented them from being inside the Gaza Strip.

The sessions witnessed a notable presence of students and their families in an academic atmosphere that reflects the university’s determination to continue the educational process despite the challenges.

The submitted research projects were supervised by Dr. Maryam Ihab Al-Hajj Ahmad as part of an academic activity that crowns a year-long research effort, embodying the faculty’s commitment to continuing its educational and research mission amid the exceptional conditions facing the Gaza Strip.

The research discussion committee consisted of:

  1. Mr. Loay Joudeh, Media Lecturer – Internal Examiner
  2. Mr. Sufyan Al-Shorbagi, Media Lecturer – Internal Examiner
  3. Mr. Mohammed Al-Siqali, Media Lecturer – Internal Examiner
  4. Mr. Rami Daloul, Media Lecturer – Internal Examiner

The committee praised the quality of the submitted projects in terms of topic relevance, methodological rigor, and their direct engagement with the Palestinian reality in the context of the ongoing war. The committee affirmed that this scientific output reflects the students’ ability to analyze the current media landscape and examine its challenges using sound research approaches.

The submitted research stood out for its ability to analyze the media scene amid the aggression. Some projects addressed the role of digital media in shaping public awareness, the role of fact-checking platforms in combating disinformation during the war on Gaza, and the field of digital security media and its strategies for confronting rumors and misleading information on social media.

Other studies explored the impact of modern technology on journalistic practice, analyzed the Israeli narrative and its psychological effects on Gaza’s children, provided critical reviews of media coverage of humanitarian issues during wartime, and examined the influence of digital campaigns on managing diplomatic crises between states.

For his part, Dr. Ahed Frouna, Secretary of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate in the Gaza Strip, praised the constructive cooperation between the syndicate and Al-Israa University, considering it a vital pillar in preparing an informed generation of media professionals capable of carrying out their duties with responsibility.

Frouna also paid tribute to the martyred journalists who lost their lives while covering the events of the war, stressing that the Syndicate’s doors will remain open to journalists and media students to enhance and empower their professional skills.

At the conclusion of the discussions, Dr. Asmaa Al-Shaqaqi, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the students, supervisors, and committee members. She emphasized that these projects represent a valuable contribution to media research at the university and reflect the students’ ability to keep pace with the profession’s developments amid highly complex realities.

She also extended her gratitude to the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate and the Media Solidarity Center for hosting the event and for their continuous support of the academic and media fields.
