📌 Al-Israa University Celebrates the Achievement of Its Graduate Zarifa Abu Qoura and Her Winning of the 2026 Shireen Abu Akleh Award

Al-Israa University congratulated journalism graduate Zarifa Abu Qoura, from the Department of Journalism and Communication Technology, on winning the Shireen Abu Akleh Award. The award recognizes her professional excellence and media efforts in conveying the truth and documenting the suffering of the Palestinian people during the war on the Gaza Strip.

Abu Qoura received the award during a ceremony organized by the International Federation of Journalists and the International Federation of Francophone Press, attended by international media and union figures. She was honored for her professional courage and determination to continue field reporting despite the exceptional circumstances and serious risks faced by journalists in Gaza.

Abu Qoura is considered one of Al-Israa University’s distinguished graduates. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Communication Technology with honors and has achieved several notable accomplishments throughout her career. Among these are winning the gold award at the annual conference of ARIJ and being shortlisted and nominated for a number of prestigious international awards.

For her part, Asmaa Nasr, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Al-Israa University, stated that this achievement is a source of pride for both the university and the Palestinian academic community. She noted that it reflects the quality of the university’s academic and training programs and its ongoing commitment to developing students’ professional, research, and creative abilities.

Dr. Nasr added that Abu Qoura’s receipt of this prestigious international award represents an inspiring example of Al-Israa University graduates who have successfully transformed academic knowledge into impactful professional practice that serves Palestinian society and amplifies its voice globally. She emphasized that throughout Abu Qoura’s years of study, the university provided a supportive educational and training environment that helped refine her journalistic skills and strengthen her expertise in digital media, field reporting, and investigative journalism.

She further stated that the university remains committed to preparing media professionals capable of fulfilling their professional and humanitarian responsibilities with competence and integrity, stressing that the successes achieved by graduates are the result of shared efforts between students and the university’s academic and administrative staff.

Al-Israa University concluded its message by wishing Zarifa Abu Qoura continued success and distinction in her professional career, and encouragement in carrying forward the mission of free journalism, defending the right to knowledge, and conveying the truth to the world with professionalism and credibility
