Al-Israa University Continues Holding Thesis Defenses and Awarding Degrees
Despite the ongoing war and blockade, Al-Israa University – Palestine has continued facilitating thesis defenses for its postgraduate students. The Faculty of Law awarded a Master's degree to researcher Ali Omar Al-Mashalji for his thesis titled: "Tort Liability for Unlawful Publication on Social Media Platforms in Palestinian Legislation: A Comparative Analytical Study." The defense was attended by: Dr. Tariq Al-Dirawi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Nahid Hijazi, Dean of Graduate Studies, Dr. Munia Mazid, Dean of Scientific Research. The defense committee, held electronically via Zoom, consisted of: Dr. Akram Muzhir (Supervisor & Chair), Dr. Omar Saad (Supervisor), Dr. Munther Al-Helu (Internal Examiner), Dr. Afif Abu Kulub (External Examiner, currently in Egypt). The session took place at the Agricultural Relief Association headquarters in Deir al-Balah. Dr. Al-Dirawi emphasized the study's significance, given the rising number of social media users and the spread of hate speech and harmful content on these platforms. He stressed the need to ensure legal frameworks for the responsible use of digital platforms. He also expressed deep gratitude to the examination committee and praised the university's pioneering role in supporting students and researchers by enabling them to defend their theses despite the devastating conditions of war.
