The Deanship of Scientific Research and Libraries held a guidance meeting for the university lecturers, dedicated to introducing the HESPAL (Higher Education Scholarships for Palestinians) program, which is supervised by the British Council. The program aims to support and build the capacities of Palestinian academic staff and enhance international academic partnerships.
The meeting provided a comprehensive explanation of the scholarship’s requirements and application process, as well as the target groups for the 2026 cycle, which are limited to academic staff members at universities in the Gaza Strip and for master’s programs only. It also clarified the priority fields of study and the university’s pivotal role in nominating applicants according to its academic needs and strategic plans.
Dr. Abdul Fattah Qarman, Dean of Scientific Research and Libraries, emphasized that the HESPAL scholarship is considered one of the strategic programs essential for developing and qualifying Palestinian academic staff. He noted that the university pays special attention to guiding lecturers and teaching assistants to make optimal use of these valuable opportunities in line with the university’s academic and research development priorities, contributing to the enhancement and sustainability of higher education quality.
He also stressed the importance of early preparation for the scholarship, particularly regarding improving English language proficiency, selecting disciplines with institutional impact, and preparing strong academic portfolios. He confirmed that the Deanship of Scientific Research and Libraries is committed to accompanying and supporting applicants throughout the preparation and application stages.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a discussion session was opened to answer attendees’ inquiries, reflecting the university’s efforts to enhance its lecturers’ competitiveness for international scholarships and expand opportunities for academic and research development.
