👈 Al-Isra University Lecturer Publishes Groundbreaking Research Study on Malnutrition Among Children in Gaza Strip ✍🏻

A qualitative research study has urged the international community and UN institutions to intervene swiftly and urgently to protect children in the Gaza Strip from malnutrition and its devastating consequences. The study, conducted by a research team led by Dr. Ahmed Al-Balbisi—an editorial board member of Al-Isra University Journal of Applied Sciences and a lecturer in the Health Professions Department at the College of Intermediate Studies, Al-Isra University—revealed the alarming spread of malnutrition among children under five in Gaza amid the ongoing Israeli aggression (2023-2024). Published in the prestigious international journal Frontiers in Nutrition (ranked Q1 with an impact factor of 4.0), the study found that 16.6% of the children surveyed suffered from malnutrition. Among them, 6.7% experienced severe acute malnutrition (SAM), while 9.7% suffered from moderate acute malnutrition (MAM). The study also highlighted that children living in homes were twice as likely to suffer from SAM and MAM compared to displaced children. Additionally, those residing in Gaza City and Northern Gaza faced a significantly higher risk of severe malnutrition (SAM OR=13.2) and moderate malnutrition (MAM OR=10.51). The research surveyed 1,200 children from across the Gaza Strip, including those living in homes as well as displaced families in tents or schools. The findings underscore the urgent need for targeted humanitarian aid and nutritional interventions to prevent further deterioration of children's health in Gaza. 🔗 Published in: Frontiers in Nutrition (Q1, Impact Factor: 4.0)
