Isra University Holds Its Regular University Council Meeting In-Person

Isra University – Palestine, held its regular University Council meeting in person on Monday, April 6, in Gaza City. Several deans located outside the Gaza Strip participated via video conferencing (Teams).
The meeting was chaired by the University President, Prof. Dr. Alaa Matar, and attended by the Academic Vice President, Prof. Dr. Nahid Hijazi, the Administrative and Financial Vice President, Dr. Munther Azzam, and Dr. Ahmed Al-Hasaineh, Vice President for External Affairs, along with the deans of the colleges and several department directors.
The meeting coincided with the start of the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic year, amid significant challenges facing the university, including severe damages to its buildings.
During the meeting, the council reviewed several academic and administrative files related to the launch of the second semester, including strategies for developing e-learning, plans to update study programs, and ways to enhance educational quality under the exceptional conditions in Gaza. The council also evaluated the university conference held at the end of March.
The attendees discussed ways to rehabilitate the university’s damaged facilities and to enhance support for students and staff, ensuring the continuity of the educational process without interruption. The council also addressed the gradual return to in-person learning, as circumstances permit, emphasizing the importance of developing virtual laboratories and strengthening practical courses, particularly in the Faculty of Medicine, to ensure effective integration of theoretical and practical learning outcomes.
Prof. Dr. Alaa Matar emphasized that the university remains committed to its educational and national mission despite the extensive destruction of the main building and the medical city in Zahra, as well as significant damage to other campuses, stressing that “academic willpower will not stop, and the university will continue to be a hub of knowledge and learning, no matter how severe the challenges.”
Matar added: “We are working with all our capabilities to maintain the continuity of education and improve its tools, especially e-learning, ensuring service to our students wherever they are and strengthening their academic resilience during this difficult phase.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, the attendees wished all students success in their academic journey, affirming the university’s commitment to providing all forms of support to ensure stable and effective education.
